In January 2022, the Tower was visited by a team from the Ancient Society of College Youths, the oldest ringing society formed in 1687, who came and rang a Peal at St Mary’s to celebrate 150 years since the opening of Tilston Primary School.

The Peal was 5040 changes of 41 Surprise Minor Methods and you can hear the fantastic quality of the ringing from the links on the left.

You should note that the recording was taken outside on a very windy day, however this does not detract from the quality of the ringing itself!

In October 2020 a band of ringers from Chester and Liverpool came to Tilston to ring a peal ( 5040 or more changes of bell order ) and this is a sample of their ringing on that day.
The recording was made outside so you will hear some extra noise from cars.

Normally the bells hang with the “mouth” of the bell down when they are not in use, before change ringing can start they have to be “raised”, a tricky thing to get right, but this audio clip shows how it should be done!

You should note that the recording was taken outside on a very windy day!

When the band has finished ringing, the bells are all lowered again, this is also a tricky thing to get right, but this audio clip shows how it should be done!

You should note that the recording was taken outside on a very windy day!
